Barbie Matthews

Barbie Matthews is a Classical Guitarist pursuing a Bachelor of Music Degree at the New
England Conservatory of Music, studying under the tutelage of virtuoso guitarists Eliot Fisk and
Jerome Mouffe. She is also pursuing a Minor in Music Theory under acclaimed musicologist Dr.
Roger Graybill. Barbie is a two-time recipient of the NEC Community Solo Performance
Fellowship Award. As a fellow, she has played numerous solo performances throughout Boston.
In 2018, Barbie was selected to play in the NEC Jazz Residency Ensemble with Jason and Alicia
Moran. Barbie was also selected to play in the NEC Jazz for Non-Majors Ensemble and to study
jazz guitar privately with esteemed guitarist Brad Shepik. Barbie is an active educator of Music
Theory at NEC, where teaches undergraduate level courses in Keyboard Harmony and works as
a Teaching Assistant for Music Theory courses. Based in Boston, Barbie maintains an active
private guitar studio, teaching students of all ages. Barbie plays a 2017 Stephan Connor guitar.
